PROMOTES ROBERT MACKNIGHT TO CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER
FREMONT, Calif.- December 9, 2002 - Mattson Technology,
Inc. (NASDAQ: MTSN), a leading supplier of advanced process
equipment used to manufacture semiconductors, today announced
that it has promoted Robert MacKnight, 53, formerly the company’s
executive vice president and president of the Thermal, Films,
Etch (TFE) product division, to the position of chief operating
officer. In his new role, MacKnight, who will report directly
to Mattson Technology CEO David L. Dutton, will oversee all
of the company’s internal operations, including the
engineering, marketing, support and business development
for the product areas, as well as manufacturing, quality
and information technology.
“As president of TFE, Bob has demonstrated a proven
track record of driving and managing operational issues,
strengthening our product lines and aligning our cost structure
with today’s market realities,” said Dutton. “I’m
confident that he will be equally successful in his new role
as chief operating officer for the company.”
MacKnight joined Mattson Technology in 2001 as executive
vice president of business development and general manager
of the RTP Product Business Unit and later that year assumed
the role of president of the TFE product division. Prior
to joining Mattson, MacKnight spent three and a half years
at Microbar, Inc., where he was most recently president and
chief operating officer. Prior to Microbar, MacKnight was
vice president and general manager of After Market Operations
for Cymer, Inc. He has also held senior management positions
with Watkins-Johnson Semiconductor Equipment Group and Eaton
Corporation and has founded two startup ventures. MacKnight
holds bachelor and master’s degrees from the University
of Massachusetts.
