Gene Tange to Support Company's Growth and Expansion

FREMONT, Calif. - November 22, 2006 - Mattson Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: MTSN), a leading supplier of advanced process equipment used to manufacture semiconductors, today announced the appointment of Gene E. Tange, 53, to senior vice president of Organizational Capability. Reporting to Chief Executive Officer David L. Dutton, Tange will be responsible for cultivating the company's unique corporate culture, focusing on strategic recruiting, retention and development of talented, high-caliber employees to contribute to the company's continued growth and success.

“Gene brings a wealth of knowledge in high-powered organizational development, with expertise in delivering human capital solutions for rapid-growth Fortune 500 and entrepreneurial firms,” said Dutton. “In his new position, Gene will be instrumental in building the talent competency at Mattson to achieve our long-term growth initiatives.”

Tange has 30 years of executive leadership experience and was most recently a national director of Organizational Effectiveness for Deloitte Consulting (San Ramon, California) , where he worked with global 2000 clients in technology, financial services and pharmaceutical sectors, assisting them in achieving higher levels of employee productivity through the use of advanced analytics tools. Previously, he was a cofounder and chief operating officer of Fortelus Inc., a leader in human capital business intelligence space, which was acquired by Deloitte Consulting. Tange has an extensive background in organizational development and human resource strategy, with 20 years experience leading firms such as CHW, Inc. (San Francisco, California), VLSI Technology (San Jose, California) and Johnson and Johnson (Sunnyvale, California). Tange holds a B.S. degree in Business Administration, Human Resources from San Jose State University (San Jose, California) and attended Pepperdine University's (Malibu, California) Executive MBA program.
