Long-Time Industry Veteran to Reinforce Company's Growth in Core Businesses and Drive Expansion into New Markets

equipment used to manufacture semiconductors, today announced the appointment of Dr. Jack S. Uppal, 52, to senior vice president of Marketing and Business Development. In this new role, Uppal will plan and direct Mattson's worldwide marketing activities and long-term business development plans, including identifying new markets, technologies and strategic partnerships that will drive the company's continued growth. Uppal will report to Chief Executive Officer David L. Dutton.

Uppal, a 26-year veteran of the semiconductor industry, has served in various positions in technology development, manufacturing and capital equipment supplier management. Uppal was most recently the director of Capital Equipment Development at Intel Corporation (Santa Clara, California), where he was responsible for supplier management and the technical evaluation/selection of new capital equipment for Intel's most advanced process technologies. Prior to this, he led Intel's 300 millimeter (mm) program and held other positions in process technology development and manufacturing. Uppal began his career at Rockwell Semiconductor (Anaheim, CA City) in 1980, and he also served as the yield manager at Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing in Singapore from 1991 to 1993. Uppal received his doctorate in Physical Chemistry from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
