MATTSON TECHNOLOGY EXPANDS GLOBAL BUSINESS OPERATIONS TO SUPPORT COMPANY'S GROWTH

Appointments to Strengthen Regional Customer Responsiveness and Support

FREMONT, Calif.- March 20, 2007 - Mattson Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: MTSN), a leading supplier of advanced process equipment used to manufacture semiconductors, today announced the expansion of its Global Business Operations (GBO) organization with several key appointments to support the company's continued growth. The new positions underscore the company's focus on intensifying sales and service efforts worldwide.

As country manager of Mattson's operations in China, Wei Chow, 39, is responsible for supporting the service and support needs of China's rapidly emerging semiconductor market. Prior to joining Mattson, Chow held various engineering, regional field service and sales management positions at KLA-Tencor Corporation (China), Novellus Systems (South East Asia) and Tech Semiconductor (Singapore).

A 20-year veteran of the semiconductor industry, Ben Han, 41, the new country manager of Mattson Korea, has held various management, process engineering, sales, marketing and service positions. Before joining Mattson, Han founded Semicat Inc. (Milpitas, California), a successful remanufacturing startup company. Prior to founding Semicat, Han was the Deputy General Manager for the CPI (Copper, PVD and Integrated Metal) product business management division of Applied Materials (Santa Clara, California). Han began his career in engineering at Applied Materials Korea.

In the newly created position of vice president (VP), Customer Service, Michael K. Romani, 50, will have responsibility for Global Field Service, Service Marketing, Technical Support, Training, Technical Publications and Mattson's Certified Pre-Owned Program. Romani was most recently senior VP of Customer Service at Brooks Automation (Chelmsford, MA). Romani served as VP of Customer Service at Asyst Technologies (Fremont, CA) and also worked for 17 years in various field service and operational management roles at KLA Tencor.

Romani joins his fellow GBO teammates John C. Voltz, Ming C. Kao and Arthur L. Hall in reporting directly to Stephen T. Lanza, senior VP of Mattson Technology's Global Business Operations. Voltz joined Mattson in 2005 as regional VP, Europe and U.S. Hall joined Mattson in 2006 as regional VP, Asia. Kao has been with the company since 2000 and serves as director of Distribution Marketing, working with Mattson's local distributor in Japan, Canon Marketing, to promote the company's products in this important region. Chow and Han report to Hall.
