| MATTSON TECHNOLOGY RECEIVES MULTIPLE ORDERS FROM SAMSUNG
FREMONT, Calif. — February 17, 1999 — Mattson
Technology (Nasdaq: MTSN), a leading supplier of semiconductor
equipment, today announced that it has received an order
for multiple Aspen CVD systems from Samsung Electronics,
headquartered in Korea. All systems will be installed in
Samsung’s DRAM production facilities in Kihung, Korea.
The Samsung CVD order is the latest in a series of announcements
about new product placements that Mattson has recently disclosed
in Asia. Hitachi-Nippon Steel and an undisclosed device manufacturer
in Japan recently placed orders for Mattson’s Aspen
RTP systems. In the fourth quarter, 1998, the Company’s
newly acquired epitaxy product line received orders from
both new and existing customers. For the first time in the
Company’s history, new products exceeded 50 percent
of the product mix in the fourth quarter.
"This order is extremely welcome news," said Brad
Mattson, CEO and chairman of Mattson Technology. "It
has long been our goal to offer a variety of integrated solutions
for leading edge processes. It’s gratifying to see
some of the newer products gaining broader market acceptance."
ABOUT THE ASPEN CVD SYSTEM
The Aspen CVD is a fully automated plasma-enhanced chemical
vapor deposition (PE CVD) deposition system used for a variety
of leading edge process applications. The flexible system
design addresses the needs of large volume manufacturing
where cost is a major consideration, such as DRAM, as well
as small volume production of ASIC and logic devices. By
providing 50% throughput advantage and the smallest footprint
available in PECVD tools, the Aspen CVD significantly reduces
costs, especially for customers that use multiple thin film
layers.
