| MATTSON TECHNOLOGY ANNOUNCES SECOND QUARTER FINANCIAL RESULTS
Net Sales Increase 54%, Bookings up 480 Percent
FREMONT, Calif. — July 22, 1999 — Mattson Technology,
Inc. (Nasdaq:MTSN), a leading supplier of advanced process
technology for semiconductor manufacturing, today announced
financial results for the second quarter of 1999.
Net sales for the second quarter of 1999 were $24.1 million,
compared to $15.6 million for the second quarter of 1998,
an increase of 54 percent. The Company recorded a net loss
for the second quarter of $0.2 million or 1 cent per diluted
share, compared to a net loss of $1.2 million or 9 cents
per diluted share for the second quarter of 1998. Second
quarter bookings were $29.6 million, up from $5.1 million
for the second quarter of 1998, an increase of 480 percent.
Backlog increased 72 percent to $35.0 million, compared to
$20.3 million at the end of the second quarter of 1998.
Quarter-to-quarter net sales increased 68 percent, up from
$14.3 million for the first quarter of 1999. Net loss in
the second quarter of 1999 was $0.2 million or 1 cents per
diluted share, as compared to a net loss of $2.4 million
or 16 cents per diluted share in the first quarter of 1999.
Bookings increased 40 percent, up from $21.2 million in the
first quarter of 1999, resulting in a book-to-bill ratio
of 1.2 to 1.0.
Brad Mattson, CEO of Mattson Technology, said, "The
quarterly results are encouraging. Our bookings were $29.6
million, which is the highest quarterly bookings in Mattson's
history. Our revenues came close to our previous peak of
$24.5 million set in Q4'97, just prior to the recent industry
downturn."
