| MATTSON TECHNOLOGY APPOINTS TWO NEW VICE PRESIDENTS
Industry Veterans to Prepare Company for Next Level of Growth
FREMONT, Calif. — November 16, 1999 — Mattson
Technology, Inc. (Nasdaq: MTSN), a leading supplier of advanced
process equipment used to manufacture semiconductors, today
announced the appointments of Walter Kasianchuk to the new
position of general manager and vice president of its Epitaxial
Products Division, and Norman W. Jones to the new position
of vice president of global sales. Spurred by the company's
rapid growth, greater than 200 percent growth in revenue
over the same quarter a year ago (fiscal third quarter 1999
compared to fiscal third quarter 1998), the new appointments
will support Mattson Technology's plans for continued growth.
Kasianchuk is responsible for the development of Mattson's
existing and new epitaxial products, including developing
markets for new epitaxial products and bolstering the process
and support infrastructure for the entire product line. Jones
is responsible for leading Mattson Technology's sales programs
and driving the strategic expansion of the company's multi-product
sales force.
Mattson Technology CEO Brad Mattson noted that both Kasianchuk
and Jones will help Mattson's executive management team execute
the company's aggressive business programs to meet rising
customer demand. During the third quarter of 1999 alone,
staffing increased over 20 percent. "We are committed
to making the strategic investments that will position and
prepare this company to meet its long-term goals," affirmed
Mattson. "We are further developing our infrastructure
to ensure we continue to capture market share. Both Norm
and Walter's two decades of established leadership abilities
will prove invaluable in helping this company reach the next
level of growth."
Kasianchuk joins Mattson Technology from Mitsubishi Silicon
America (MSA) where he was most recently executive vice president
of engineering and technology. While at MSA, Kasianchuk founded
the company's Engineering Process Development and Materials
Evaluation Division, which provided the technology for advanced
analytical techniques and materials science, developed technology
transfer systems and supported major processing areas including
epitaxial deposition. He was responsible for developing and
implementing MSA's global technical organization, improving
the company's product differentiation in its marketplace.
Prior to MSA, Kasianchuk held senior management positions
with Siltec Corp. and Shell Oil Company. He holds a bachelor's
degree in chemical engineering from University of Notre Dame
(Southbend, Ind.) and a master's degree from St. Mary's College
Graduate School of Business (Moraga, Calif.).
Jones joins Mattson Technology from BOC Edwards (BOCE) where
he was most recently senior vice president of sales and marketing.
While at BOCE, Jones developed and implemented the programs
and organizations that eventually garnered BOCE the leading
market position in Taiwan. He has also held senior management
positions with Athens Corp., Lam Research Corp. and Intel
Corp. Jones began his career at Burroughs Corp. (San Diego,
Calif.) where he was an early developer of NMOS, PMOS and
bipolar technologies for captive production of memory and
logic semiconductor devices. Jones holds a bachelor's degree
in electrical engineering from University of Delaware (Newark,
Del.) and a master's degree in electrical engineering from
Pennsylvania State University (University Park, Pa.).
